PC to Mac and Orchestral Cube First Edition

I bought the Orchestral Cube First Edition (for Gigastudio) back in 2003 when I was using a PC. I've now moved to an Intel Mac (MacPro) and am using Pro Tools HD, Logic and Sibelius. I have Kontakt Player 2.

How can I still use my VI library? ViennaKeys were not required back in 2003 so I don't have one. All I have is the DVDs and the cards with serial numbers on as well as confirmation in the User Area that my software is registered.

    Please help!

    Thanks.

Hi, as you probably know GigaStudio works only on a PC, but the latest version of GVI (Giga Virtual Instrument) apparently runs on a Mac. I use GVI on a PC and it reads all my old Giga libraries (incl. the VSL Pro Edition) but lacks GigaStudio's editing facilities. You can even hook up the old VSL Performance Tool with GVI if you use a bit of freeware called Maple Virtual MIDI Cable. I also recall some people discussing Kontakt (not Kontakt Player) versions of the old VSL libraries here, but don't recall the details.

The Vienna Instrument (which requires the Vienna Key) is VSL's custom player. It doesn't play the old Giga and EXS24 sound libraries, you have to buy the new VI collections - I believe you get a discount if you bought earlier libraries. For legatos, repetitions etc. the VI is much easier to operate because the Performance Tool software is integrated with the player, you just load a patch and play.

Re: PC to Mac and Orchestral Cube First Edition

I'm not in a position to buy any of the new libraries at the moment, so after the large initial investment how can I use my library on my Mac?

Anyone have any info on how I can license the software on the new machine and use it?

Anyone know how to use with Kontakt player?

I see I have a free download of the performance tool now......

    Any help, please!!

Am I just to accept that several thousand pounds is wasted?

Surely there is a way I can re-register the product I bought and use it on my Mac?

    Please help......!!!!

     You have three options:

    1. Try to persuade VSL to give you a side licence for EXS (which at least helps with Logic)
    2. Try to convert the samples for Kontakt, and lose all the Performance Instruments
    3. Join the 21st Century and pony up for Vienna Instruments. Wink

A cheap option would be for you to buy G-Player, a Giga sample player for OSX (and Windows). And if you ask VSL nicely I'm sure they'd consider letting you download the performance tool for OSX.

first edition orchestral cube giga -> no sidelicenses (you had to import into exs by yourself because the exs DVDs are no longer available).

preformance tool also not needed because there are no performance elements in the cube ....

I'm afraid I don't understand what you mean by all that......

How do I import into EXS?

    Thank you

Re: PC to Mac and Orchestral Cube First Edition

you could import gigastudio files into exs or kontakt - for single note articulations (as there are in your gigastudio first edition orchestral cube) this works nicely. exs gives you samples & sample instrument files, kontakt gives you samples and program files. there are also dedicated importer applications out there doing this job ...

since in your case no performance elements (from the performance set) are involved there is no need for a performance tool (maybe except for automating alternations in exs ...)

Re: PC to Mac and Orchestral Cube First Edition

Buy G-Player from this company here.  It is very cheap, loads all of your giga files in native form (no conversion).  Forget converting, forget importing etc.  It's WAY to much work and the results are just simply random.  It's not worth it in the end compared to spending the small amount of money to buy a player that will play Giga files on both MAC and PC.  It is also supported by VSL as I have used it a long time and the programmers got it supported for me (and probably others use it now too).
