Appassionata Strings I or II?

Hello all and thanks in advance, the question is very simple, i dont know the main differences between the two. I have LASS, Sym.Orch and CS2 as String Libraries. I am down to HolyWood Strings or Appassionata Strings. I am leaning more towards Appassionata becuse i already have Symphonic Orchestra. LASS is another Story, their Library is a real MESS. I need some help deciding: 1. VSL vs HolyWood? 2. Which Appassionata String, I or II and why? 3. What about the Free Player and Player Pro? Computer Power is of no worries, i have a Monster for that. MIR Pro and audio files

Let's say you have an audio file (let's call it a .wav file) and you want to add it to your mix in VEP5 and have it process through the same venue and settings your added instruments are going through. Is there a way to do this?

Beginner Error - Locked Me Out - Please Help

Hope someone can help.

I forgot I added one VI to a Logic project on my laptop, and the samples are on an external drive I don't have with me, and I don't have the Vienna key with me. When I try opening, a window pops up saying "eLicenser Control - Error... Click to abort", but I can't click anything. It gives me the spinning wheel, and the Force Quit window lists Logic as not responding.

If I ever tried opening a project with a plugin problem before (like an expired demo), Logic has always let me in to the project even though the plugin wasn't available.

How can I get into this project?

Cubase, VEP Pro and EW Play

Been covered already but im raising it again cause its really annoying.
Problem:

1. Create cubase project
2. Add VEP Pro 5 instrument
3. Add several play instruments in VEP
4. Save & close project
5. Reopen project
6. VEP hangs loading play samples

Workaround (that I know of):

1. Save offending VEP instance
2. Disconnect VEP instrument in cubase everytime I save and close the project
3. Load VEP instance then load cubase project
4. Manually reconnect VEP instance

Is this going to be addressed at somepoint? Is there a better workaround?

VE Pro and Mac Pro 2008

Is my early 2008 Mac Pro 8 core machine compatible with the latest VE Pro and MIR, or do I have to upgrade the hardware to the latest Mac? I'd rather not do that just yet, since Apple are this year probably going to release a significant upgrade to their Mac Pro line.

how much is the VEP 4 to 5 upgrade? (for real)

Advice-Stereo or Mono VI's, and Reverb?

Hello,

I'm working on an orchestral piece using DP 7.24, Kontakt 5,
and Vienna Instruments. I thought I would try using mono instances of Kontakt
and Vienna Instruments to achieve greater clarity in my mixes.
Let's say I want the horns to appear in the 11:00-12:00 position
in the overall mix.For the horn section( FH, Trombone, Trumpets) I have
all instruments panned in the 11:00-12:00 position. Should I used one
dedicated stereo reverb for the horns, and a different reverb
for woodwinds, strings etc.,or should I use one reverb for the
entire mix?

Totally new to Vienna Symphonic

Hi, I hope I am not too much of a bother here but I'd appreciate just a couple of tips as to what I should purchase by VSL. I have the following equipment: Mac OS X 10.6.8 2x2.26 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon:16 GB RAM:2 internal HD and several external HD's. I use LogicPro 9. I was wondering whether the following would be a good start: 1. Vienna Special Edition Vol.1 Bundle 2. Ensemble Pro5 I would probably want to use the VS together with my Logic, and possibly as stand alone, but I'm a bit confused right now as to what I need. Many thanks in advance, David Q.

Can I use a UAD-2 Solo PCI-E card in my slave computer with Vienna Ensemble Pro?

I have a Macbook as the host computer running Logic Studio and 1 slave PC computer running Vienna Ensemble through ethernet. I'm looking at a UAD2-SOLO PCI-E card that would go into my PC. Can I put one in and use it in Vienna Ensemble Pro and will it just act like a VST or AU plugin, adding processing/effects and, like all plugins, sending the output back to my host computer? Thanks.

SE Violin solo and "slides"

I can't understand why, in a certain file only, so far, the violin solo legato suddenly decides at the opening of the piece, to start sliding around. I realize the legatos have transitions but why do they come out so pronounced (if that is what it is) that it sounds like portamenti instead of transitions. In an earlier version (VSL) this doesn't happen and it doesn't happen after the opening. And I don't think it has to do with "phasing".

I am not using either portamento articulations or pitch bend except in one place and I've looked at the various windows as well in the VS windows of the violin. True, it's not as pronounced as in an actual portamento articulation but it's pronounced enough for me.

Launching Vienna Ensemble inside Vienna Ensemble

I use Vienna Ensemble standalone on one computer (fed through midi loopbe pipes). Now I would like to access Vienna Ensemble on another computer in my network. But the Vienna Ensemble VST plugins don't show up inside my standalone Vienna Ensemble. Why?

Installing new SE files

I deleted my SE and SE Plus (standard+extended) files from my computer with the intention of replacing them with the newly reorganized files, but when I try to install the files available in my User Area (for example, "SE_Vol-1_Brass_PLUS_v01"), I get the message, "The following licneses are needed to install this package: SE Brass Plus Basic." I have a feeling this has something to do with trying to install the "sections" rather than the "collections" for which I have licenses, but there were no other files available in my User Area. Am I missing something?

Finding Special Edition sounds in Logic

I have my Special Edition samples stored on an external hard drive (Glyph GT 050Q). I can't find my sounds in the channel strip of Logic. Do I need to route them somehow to Logic from the Directory Manager? Any help would be greatly appreciated! JR

William Kersten music in MIR Pro

All the orchestra is VSL, but I had to use some other libraries for the choir (singing words in an invented language) and recorders, but put them directly into MIR Pro which is a fantastic way to import sounds into VSL.

[SOLVED]Found a bug in the latest build (10738) of VEP5

It's 100% repeatable and happens of my friend's system as well.

If I load Hollywood strings 1st Violins: 09 Legato Slur + Port Powerful System and start at the top of the list, by the time I get to the 6th sound

1st Violins Leg Slur Ni it will hang everytime and NOT load the sound in the server version.

However if I repeat this in the stand-alone version of VEP5, It works fine and I can load all the sounds.

It happens with the second violins as well. I needed to use these sounds.

As a work around, I used the stand-alone version of VEP5, loaded the sounds I needed and saved it as a channel set.

Then I loaded the channel frame into the server version of VEP5 and it worked.

If you have this library, can you check out this problem?

Change from an old dual XEON MAC Pro to a new single Ivy Bridge PC?

I have a 4 years old dual Xeon 2,8 Mac Pro.

As soon as I bought it I put 2x8 giga of compatible RAM inside.

In the years all the RAM is failing and now I just have only 6 giga working (2*1 original MAC + 2*2 compatible)

Fortunately I have a PCI express SSD card so I don't need huge quantity of RAM but, while ten was enough, only 6 giga of RAM is not.

The RAM is life guaranted but they don't produce it anymore, so they offer me another kind RAM as I like.

Now I have 2 possibilities:
1. I buy new RAM for the 4 years old MAC Pro, about 400 euros

2. As I don't see any reason to keep on buying Apple products (I 've been using Windows via boot camp since I bought it)
I sell the Mac Pro and is maybe 1.300 euros, I get the RAM from the RAM factory
I take the Hard and SSD drives off the MAC pro.
That is, with the 400 euros that I would spend for an old Computer, I get a new 1300 (the Mac Pro value)+ 400 (the RAM) + 400 (the money that I would spend anymore) + 800 (the disks) = a 2900 euros new PC practically at cost zero.

From what I have read on this forum it looks like a new PC is far better than a 4 years old.

Of course I will wait 2 or 3 months to be sure that Ivy Bridge is not crap!

I would like a comment from all of you, expecially from the Vienna team.

Problems with Download Manager

Hi there!

I hope I'm right here at this place with my problem! Couldn't find a better place in the forum.

Just bought SpecialEdition Vol.3, registered it on my dongle and downloaded it using the Vienna Download Manager. Took about 8h. I think all packages are fully downloaded. I compared it with the info that is given in the text file I found in the download directory. I mean the size of the last .cab-file (..._26.cab) fits perfectly to the number stated in the text file. So I assume that everythin is downloaded.

However, the download manager starts checking the files and pauses after a while whithout any apparent reason. That actually is not a real problem, I can press "start" again and it will continue. It stops several times, kind of like, after every single cab-package was checked.When I continue pressing start again and again it reaches finally 100% in the progress bar and then blows up. Windows is telling me that the application had some serious trouble and closes it.

I could try deleting this session and start it all over again but I hope I could avoid it. Since downloading takes quite some time and apparantly I already got all the files on my hdd. I wonder, is there a way to just use them and just install them?

By the way, I'm using the vienna download manager version 2.1.10719 on WinXp Sp3. It is by far not the first thing I bought directly over your page and downloaded it using your download manager, but the first time that this happend.

Ok, sorry, just after I wrote this I remembered that there is the library installer(long time since I've installed a vsl-product from dvd and not from download) . I tried that one with the package info file and it said it cannot read the installation package (file is corrupted?). So I guess that means redownload another 8h anyway.

[SOLVED] Sibelius hangs when exporting to a WAV file

Has anyone had problems with Sibelius hanging when you attempt to export? I started having problems a few months ago. I think VSL issued an update to either Ensemble Pro or Instruments Pro around that time, but I'm not 100% sure. The export process stops at random points; that is if I try to export the same file more than once the point at which it hangs is not consistent. The only files I can export sucessfully are the most simple ones, such as a clarinet sonata.

My workaround has been to export in chunks, i.e., highlight the woodwinds and export them, etc., but this doesn't always work.

I'm using Sibelius 7.12, Ensemble Pro 5.10370, Instruments Pro 2.0.10214, running on a fully patched Windows 7 64-bit system. Is there some sort of debug log I can turn on that might give you additional information?
